24 Retired Civil Service Officers Advocate Delaying Hussain's Oath-Taking

We hope this letter finds you well. We, the undersigned retired civil service officers from the IAS, IPS, IFS, and IRS, are writing to express our concerns regarding the recent events surrounding the victory celebration of newly appointed Rajya Sabha member Naseer Hussain.

It has come to our attention through press reports that during Mr. Hussain’s victory celebration at the Karnataka Assembly grounds, supporters publicly chanted slogans of “Pakistan Zindabad” within the Vidhana Soudha, a protected area and a symbol of democracy. We understand that the Election Commission of India has officially declared Mr. Hussain’s election to the Rajya Sabha.

However, we urge you to consider postponing the administration of the oath of office to Mr. Naseer Hussain until the legal proceedings related to the raising of the pro-Pakistan slogans are concluded. It has been reported that Mr. Civil Service Officers  Hussain’s recommendation and knowledge facilitated his supporters’ entry into the protected area of the Vidhana Soudha, where the celebration took place.

We believe that postponing the oath-taking ceremony until the legal proceedings are completed and Mr. Hussain is cleared of any involvement in the incident would be a prudent and fair course of action. We trust that you will take prompt and appropriate measures to address this matter in accordance with the principles of justice and transparency.

It is worth noting that three individuals have been granted three days of police custody in connection with the alleged slogans. The Deputy Commissioner of Bengaluru Police’s Central Division, Shekhar HT, has confirmed that the arrest was based on the FSL report, corroborative evidence, and testimonies from witnesses at the scene.
