BJP Worker Detained in Karnataka for Shouting 'Pak Zindabad' Slogan

In Karnataka’s Mandya district, a 34-year-old BJP activist, Danatajapura Ravi, has been detained in connection with a First Information Report (FIR) filed by Mandya West Police based on a complaint by Congress worker Kannambadi Kumar.

The FIR is related to a BJP protest in December 2022, where attendees allegedly shouted “Pakistan Zindabad” in response to comments made by Pakistan’s foreign minister, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The police claim that during the protest at Sanjay Circle on December 22, 2022, besides expressing discontent with Pakistan and its government, some individuals were charged with chanting “Pakistan Zindabad” instead of “Pakistan Murdabad.”

The recent complaint stemmed from a commotion during the celebration of Syed Naseer Hussain’s victory in the Rajya Sabha presidential elections on February 27, Karnataka where Congress workers allegedly shouted “Pakistan Zindabad.”

According to Mandya Superintendent of Police N. Yetish, the FIR includes charges under sections 505 (statement causing public mischief) and 153B (assertions threatening national integrity). The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are underway to apprehend another individual named Aradhya, mentioned in the FIR. Danayakapura Ravi, a BJP member, is scheduled to appear before the local court on Tuesday.

Bengaluru police arrested three people on Monday for brandishing the sign, based on the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report, witness statements, circumstantial evidence, and available proof.

Karnataka Yetish emphasized that the video clip clearly shows Ravi’s involvement in raising the Pakistan slogan, but BJP’s Mandya district unit president, Indresh, criticized the authorities for filing the complaint 14 months after the alleged incident, claiming it was a political move by the Congress.
