Congress Faces MLA Elimination in Himachal Pradesh Amidst Attacks

One of the six Congress rebels involved in orchestrating the party’s defeat in the recent Rajya Sabha election, disqualified Himachal Pradesh MLA Rajinder Rana, blamed Abhishek Manu Singhvi’s candidacy for their betrayal.

He questioned the Congress leadership’s decision to send the well-known attorney from the hill state to the Upper House, claiming that the rebels voted against it to protect Himachal Pradesh’s honor. Rana revealed their next move, stating they would file a lawsuit to challenge their disqualifications.

“We made this choice for the people of Himachal Pradesh to preserve their honor and respect. One Devbhoomi is in Himachal Pradesh. Did the ruling Congress Party not field a candidate from among the laborers who assisted in the party’s formation to represent Himachal Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha?” questioned Rana.

“We are heading to court soon. The Speaker was under intense pressure to disqualify us. There was no consideration for the law. Supporters of the rebel MLAs have started receiving challans from the police… We will defend the state’s dignity,” he continued.

Rajinder Rana accused CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of choking the government in Himachal Pradesh, asserting that it solely represents Sukhu’s allies, not the Congress party. Rana highlighted the discontent among the youth who are still awaiting promises made after the elections and mentioned certain MLAs receiving rude treatment.

Despite having the support of forty MLAs, the Congress faced challenges in the Himachal Rajya Sabha elections when six MLAs cross-voted for the BJP, putting the government at risk. The subsequent disqualification of the rebels and suspension of 15 BJP MLAs allowed the Congress government time to regroup. DK Shivkumar was dispatched as a troubleshooter to resolve internal conflicts, but Vikramaditya Singh’s meeting with MLAs suggests that infighting persists.

Vikramaditya Singh’s mother, Pratibha Singh, the chief of the Himachal Congress, praised the BJP, stating their work is superior. Sukhvinder Sukhu responded by questioning what could be greater than having an alliance with 80% MLAs, expressing confusion over her remark.

Sukhu attributed the MLAs’ uprising to the BJP, accusing them of horse trading and obtaining cross-voting during the Rajya Sabha elections. He emphasized that it is the opposition’s responsibility to make accusations and questioned their next course of action.
