Commuters in Delhi have been alerted by the Delhi Police about potential traffic diversions at the Tikri, Ghazipur, and Singhu borders. The increased safety measures were implemented due to a planned march by farmers from Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh to the capital. To control the situation, the Delhi Police have imposed prohibitions on movement and public gatherings.
On Tuesday afternoon, farmers intended to gather at Singhu, Tikri, and Ghazipur borders, leading to the installation of trenches, concertina wires, shipping containers, and metal barricades on Delhi’s periphery. Anticipating traffic chaos, the police warned of possible diversions at the border points in an updated traffic advisory released on Monday night.

Negotiations between Union ministers Piyush Goyal, Arjun Munda, and farmer leaders reached a standstill, leading to heightened preparations. The deadlock persisted since the first meeting on February 8. Farmer leaders accused the government of stalling and reinforced borders with obstacles.
In response, the Haryana government imposed bans on gatherings and the use of tractor-trolleys for demonstrations in fifteen districts. Despite restrictions, on Monday, farmers from 200 organizations and unions defied orders, prompting authorities to deploy paramilitary and police forces to halt their march after some protestors attempted to breach barricades with their vehicles.
