Kapil Sharma has alleged that car designer Dilip Chhabria “illegally stole money” from him.

Actor and comedian Kapil Sharma has lodged a complaint with the Enforcement Directorate, alleging that car designer Dilip Chhabria, previously imprisoned for deception and fraud in 2020, engaged in illicit activities to extract money from him. According to Mohammed Hamid, Sharma’s authorized representative, who provided a statement recorded by the ED for a money laundering investigation, Chhabria attempted to shift blame for the non-delivery of a customized vehicle.

The chargesheet filed against Chhabria in connection with the case was acknowledged by a special PMLA court overseeing the matter, which summoned Chhabria and six other accused parties. According to Hamid’s statement, in December 2016, Sharma, the sole owner of K9 Productions, approached Chhabria to purchase a customized vanity van. Subsequently, a contract was signed in March 2017 between K9 Productions and Dilip Chhabria Design Private Limited for the delivery of a customized vanity van worth Rs 4.5 crore (excluding taxes). As per the agreement, Sharma’s production company paid Rs 5.31 crore, including taxes.

Hamid claimed that despite the payment, neither the promised vanity van nor any financial reimbursement was provided to Sharma by DCDPL. When Hamid visited Chhabria’s Pune facility to inspect the van, Chhabria explained the delay by stating that all interior materials were stored in a warehouse due to his financial difficulties and urgent need for funds.

Chhabria subsequently requested additional funding for the van’s delivery, sending Sharma quotations for Rs 54,20,800. Sharma grew suspicious of the sudden request for more money, and when questioned, Chhabria reacted angrily. The accused then allegedly falsely accused Sharma of not inspecting the van promptly, using this as an excuse for the non-delivery.

Aware of the attempted deception, Sharma took legal action and issued a recovery alert to Chhabria’s company on April 18, 2019. Chhabria’s illicit methods to extract money from Sharma reportedly included false accusations and illegal means. Kapil Sharma In December 2020, Chhabria was arrested by the Mumbai Police Crime Intelligence Unit for allegedly obtaining loans from non-banking financial companies (NBFC) by falsely posing as a buyer of DC sports cars, specifically Avantis. In 2021, Sharma claimed that Chhabria had taken Rs 5.5 crore for designing his vanity van but had failed to deliver on the agreement.
