Expressing his gratitude, Kumar, a Padma Shri laureate and mathematics teacher, shared his excitement about receiving the Golden Visa from the UAE Embassy in India. He described the experience as extraordinary, likening it to joining the ranks of Bollywood celebrities and sports legends. Kumar acknowledged the honor bestowed upon him and extended his thanks to the UAE government.
An interesting deviation from the usual recipients, Kumar’s inclusion from the academic sector is noteworthy. Traditionally, the Golden Visa has been granted to Bollywood stars and sports personalities such as Sania Mirza, Shah Rukh Khan, Sanjay Dutt, and Kriti Sanon.
Anand Kumar gained prominence in 2002 when he launched the Super 30 program in Patna. The initiative aimed to provide coaching to economically disadvantaged students preparing for the JEE-Main and JEE-Advanced exams, crucial for admission to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
Recognizing his significant contributions to literature and education, Kumar was honored with the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award, in the previous year.
The Golden Visa is typically granted to highly skilled individuals worldwide, including entrepreneurs, scientists, exceptional students, and graduates. This renewable long-term resident visa, lasting up to 10 years, offers numerous benefits, such as full ownership of businesses, access to public healthcare and schools, and the ability to sponsor residence permits for immediate family members.
Anand Kumar’s acquisition of the Golden Visa marks a departure from the norm, where figures from the Bollywood and sports industry have predominantly received this accolade. The UAE’s strategy of attracting foreign investment and expertise is evident through the various advantages provided to Golden Visa holders.
Acknowledging the distinction, Kumar plans to personally receive the accolade in the UAE, viewing it as recognition for his dedicated service to education. His unique journey from a Patna-based educator to a recipient of this prestigious visa reflects his commitment to transforming the lives of aspiring students through the Super 30 initiative.
