“Delighted to announce that Bharat Ratna will be awarded to Shri LK Advani ji. I spoke with him and congratulated him on being conferred this honor,” tweeted PM Modi. He praised Advani’s journey from community service to Deputy Prime Minister, highlighting his roles as Home Minister and Minister of Information & Broadcasting. The Prime Minister commended Advani’s exemplary parliamentary interventions, characterized by rich insights.
Accompanying the announcement were two images of PM Modi with the BJP icon. Modi reflected on Advani’s decades-long commitment to public service, emphasizing his unwavering dedication to openness and honesty, setting high standards in political ethics. Advani’s efforts in promoting cultural revival and national cohesion were also recognized by PM Modi.
In another post, PM Modi expressed his appreciation for the privilege of conversing with Advani and gaining insightful perspectives from him. Lal Krishan Advani, born in Karachi and later settling in India after the partition, became the seventh Deputy Prime Minister from 2002 to 2004. An RSS officer and co-founder of the BJP, Advani held key positions such as Leader of the Opposition and Minister of Home Affairs in the Lok Sabha.
Having joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at the age of fourteen, Advani became an elected official of the Rajya Sabha in 1970. He played a pivotal role in the Janata Party’s victory in the general elections, serving as the leader of the house in the Rajya Sabha and Minister for Information and Broadcasting in 1977. A founding member of the BJP, Advani served as its president on three occasions and held crucial roles in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.
