At the audio launch event for the film “Lal Salaam,” directed by Aishwarya and featuring Rajinikanth, she spoke about the emotional toll she experienced due to people associating her father with the term sanghi. Rajinikanth asserted that he wouldn’t have participated in the movie if he held such political affiliations.
Despite generally avoiding social media, Aishwarya expressed her discontent with online discussions about her father’s supposed alignment with right-wing politics. She mentioned encountering memes that mocked her father, labeling him as a sanghi. Initially unaware of the term’s definition, Aishwarya learned that sanghis are perceived as supporters of specific political parties, a characterization she vehemently denied for her father.
In response to the social media backlash, critics circulated a photo of Rajinikanth with Yogi Adityanath and referenced his earlier statement comparing Amit Shah and Narendra Modi to Lord Krishna and Arjuna. This prompted questions about his political leanings. BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan defended Rajinikanth, stating that being labeled a sanghi shouldn’t be derogatory, and it can signify patriotism and commitment to the country.

After a period of silence, Rajinikanth addressed the media, emphasizing that his daughter did not view the term “Sanghi” negatively.
