The speculation surrounding the new chief minister of Madhya Pradesh has officially come to an end, as Mohan Yadav was elected during the BJP legislative party meeting on Monday.

The BJP secured a decisive victory in the assembly elections, winning 163 seats and putting an end to days of tense debates in New Delhi and Bhopal. The names of potential candidates, including Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Prahlad Patel, Jyotiraditya Scindia, VD Sharma, and Kailash Vijayvargiya, were widely discussed.

Ultimately, Mohan Yadav, the former minister of higher education in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government, emerged as the chosen candidate. Supported by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the 58-year-old Ujjain South MLA was formally announced as the party’s legislative leader after a meeting at the BJP headquarters in Bhopal.

The newly elected speaker of the assembly is union minister Narendra Singh Tomar, who resigned after winning an election. Expressing gratitude to the party and its leaders, Yadav stated, “I will try to fulfill my responsibilities with your love and support.”

During the meeting, BJP observers, including national secretary Asha Lakra, BJP OBC Morcha president K Laxman, and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, discussed the names with the winning MLA-elect. Mohan Yadav’s appointment comes ten days after the BJP’s victory in the Madhya Pradesh assembly election, where they secured 163 out of 230 seats without a chief ministerial face.

Yadav, following in the footsteps of Suderlal Patwa, Uma Bharti, Babulal Gaur, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, will be the fifth chief minister nominated by the BJP. Chouhan held the position for over 16 years. Yadav, born on March 25, 1965, in Ujjain, has a robust educational background, holding degrees such as BSC, LLB, MBA, and PhD. He served as a cabinet minister in the government of Shivraj Singh Chouhan starting in 2020.
