Pune – FIR Filed Against Flight Training Academy Officials Amidst Twin Aircraft Crash Investigation

On Monday, a case was registered against officials of Redbird Flight Training Academy Pvt. Ltd. in Baramati, Pune, Maharashtra, due to alleged illegal activities and non-cooperation with the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) officials during an investigation.

FIR filed against Redbird Flight Training Academy

An FIR has been filed against Redbird Flight Training Academy based on a complaint from AAIB, citing violations under IPC sections 353 and 186 at Baramati Rural Police Station. The academy officials reportedly failed to cooperate with AAIB during their investigation, leading to two crashes in Baramati, Pune district, last month.

The first incident occurred on October 19, when an aircraft from the academy crashed near Kaftal village in Baramati, resulting in injuries to the pilot. The second incident took place on October 22, where another training aircraft belonging to Redbird Flight Training Academy crashed during a session in Gojubavi village, causing injuries to both the trainee and trainer during an attempted landing.

The investigation was started by AAIB officials.

AAIB officials initiated an investigation into the crashes, and the FIR was filed against Redbird Flight Training Academy officials for non-cooperation during the inquiry. Allegations suggest that the academy obstructed the investigation into the accidents that occurred in Baramati last month.

The decision to file the FIR came after a video surfaced, showing Capt Karan Mann, the promoter of Red Bird, reprimanding AAIB officials over their initial reports on the October 19 and October 22 crashes involving the academy’s aircraft. The AAIB has now taken legal action against nine officials of Red Bird Flight Education Academy for obstructing public servants from performing their duties.

This marks the first time that the AAIB has filed a case against an operator for hindering an accident investigation. A senior AAIB official, also the lead investigator for the two October crashes involving Red Bird, filed a complaint at the Baramati Taluka Police Station. The case has been registered against nine individuals from Red Bird Pilot Training Institute under Sections 353 and 186 of the IPC, both of which carry potential imprisonment, fines, or both as penalties.
