Elon Musk on Satya Nadella's Big Announcement: "Now They Will Have to…"

Sam Altman, the former leader of OpenAI, and Greg Brockman, the former president, have been selected by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella to lead a new team focused on state-of-the-art AI research. On X (previously Twitter), Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella wrote that the company is “committed to our partnership with OpenAI and has confidence in our product roadmap, our ability to continue innovating with everything we announced at Microsoft Ignite, and in continuing to support our customers and partners.” We look forward to getting to know OAI’s new management team, which includes Emmett Shear and some others.

And we’re excited to welcome Greg Brockman and Sam Altman and their colleagues to Microsoft to lead our new advanced AI research team,” he said. Measures are being taken immediately to provide them with the resources they need to succeed. Mr. Altman echoed this sentiment, responding, “the mission continues.”

OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, hired him after it refused to reverse course on its decision to change CEO, despite pressure from Microsoft and other prominent investors. The board of directors of Amazon has appointed Emmett Shear, previously the head of the Twitch streaming service, as interim CEO.

In a letter to staff on Sunday night, the board reaffirmed its decision, telling them it was “the only path to advance and defend the mission of OpenAI,” as The New York Times reported.

Sam Altman was eager to return to the company, but only if the board was restructured and the current members were changed, as reported by Bloomberg. In addition, he claimed he asked for a declaration clearing his name of any misconduct. In the wake of the considerable outcry over the firing, the board agreed to retire in principle. However, they have yet to do so formally.

Brockman wrote on the 18th of November, “Sam got a text from Ilya today saying he wants to talk at noon. Sam attended a Google Meet with the rest of the board members sans Greg. Ilya told Sam that news of his termination will be made public soon.

The committee is now deliberating on new director candidates. Present and past workers were upset by the management shakeup that followed Mr. Altman’s dismissal because they were worried about the forthcoming $86 billion share sale.

The two individuals addressed the allegation of their dismissal from OpenAi at a Google Meet, a competitor to Microsoft’s Teams. Musk’s eccentric remark sparked a wave of memes on X, and soon, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX was joined in his good humor by hundreds of his followers.

As one of the guys put it, they were “fired on the meet, hired on teams.” One movie buff even included an image from “Kingdom of Heaven” to emphasize her point.

Altman, who became famous with the release of the AI chatbot last year, remarked on X, “The mission continues.”

Unexpectedly, the board of directors of OpenAI decided to replace Altman as CEO. The decision, revealed on Friday, has been met with tremendous resistance from employees and stockholders.
