The fate of Bengal’s distribution led to the arrest of Trinamool Congress leader Shankar Adhya.

Adhya’s support for Jyotipriyo Mallick, the current minister of forests and former minister of food, who was also arrested, raised questions about his purported involvement in the ration distribution scheme.

Sources revealed that the ED uncovered Adhya’s alleged role in the scheme during the probe and accused Jyotipriyo Mallick of Shankar Adhya. using Adhya’s name during questioning. Adhya’s detention, according to the ED, was connected to his alleged involvement in the scheme. Additional sources suggested that Adhya operated a foreign currency business and a rice mill in Bangaon, prompting an investigation into whether he used these businesses, funded by the scheme, for money laundering.

While ED officials were en route to raid Shahajahan Sheikh’s home in connection with the alleged ration distribution fraud, they were reportedly ambushed by a mob claiming to be his followers in Sandhikali. The incident resulted in the vandalism of their vehicle, with the investigating agency stating that 800-1000 people participated in the attack with the intent to cause harm.
