Chandrababu Naidu’s Party Poised for NDA Comeback

On Thursday, there was a significant meeting between Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu, BJP President JP Nadda, and Home Minister Amit Shah, sparking speculation about a potential alliance for the upcoming Andhra Pradesh Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. This marks the second such meeting between Mr. Naidu and Mr. Shah in the last two months. While an official announcement is expected soon, additional talks are scheduled between the TDP and BJP in Delhi today.

Historically, until 2018, the TDP was a crucial part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). However, Mr. Naidu, who was the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh at that time, chose to leave the alliance due to concerns about state funding.

With elections looming, both parties seem willing to collaborate, provided they can reach an agreeable seat-sharing arrangement. Chandrababu Naidu Sources suggest that discussions primarily focused on potential alliances and the intricacies of seat distribution. While both sides express a desire to work together, the resolution of disagreements over the allocation of seats will be crucial.

Andhra Pradesh, with 25 Lok Sabha seats and 175 Assembly seats, is a key battleground. The BJP may target eight to ten parliamentary seats if an alliance is formed, with a likely settlement of five or six Lok Sabha seats for the BJP, and the TDP securing the remaining seats. The Jana Sena Party (JSP), led by Pawan Kalyan, may contest three seats as part of the alliance.

Reports indicate that the BJP is eyeing strategic seats in Vizag, Vijayawada, Araku, Rajampet, Rajahmundry, Chandrababu Naidu Tirupati, and another location. Projections suggest they could win four to six seats, while Jana Sena may secure three, including Balashowree’s seat in Machilipatnam.

The former NDA member, JSP, has already allied with the TDP and is urging the BJP to follow suit. Mr. Kalyan personally participated in the meeting with Mr. Shah, with three Lok Sabha and twenty-four assembly seats already allocated to the JSP.

In anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has been actively seeking to expand the NDA. Chandrababu Naidu The party sees collaboration with local parties sharing its goals as crucial for success, aiming to secure 400 seats with allies and 370 seats independently. Apart from Andhra Pradesh, there are expectations of a poll alliance announcement between the BJP and the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), led by Naveen Patnaik.
