Modi’s Moment in Kashmir: A Visit to Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar

Kashmir Prime Minister Modi is set to make his first visit to Srinagar since the repeal of Article 370, marking the occasion by inaugurating significant projects in the tourism and agriculture sectors, totaling more than Rs 6400 crore.

The Holistic Agriculture Development Program, worth Rs 5000 crore, will be dedicated to strengthening agribusiness in the Union territory during the Viksit Bharat Viksit Jammu Kashmir event at Bakshi Stadium.

Additionally, projects valued at over Rs 1400 crore related to the integrated development of Hazratbal Shrine in Srinagar will be introduced.

Know about Modi’s visit to Kashmir as follows:

• This visit holds historical significance as it is the first time the national tricolor is flown over Bakshi Stadium since the abrogation of Article 370, granting Jammu and Kashmir special status.
• Security measures are heightened, with increased foot patrols and the use of CCTV and drone cameras within a two-kilometer radius of the event.
• Srinagar has been declared a temporary red zone for drone operations, and marine commandos are stationed at the Jhelum River and Dal Lake to prevent any unauthorized activity.
• To ensure the smooth conduct of the high-profile event, board exams scheduled for the day have been postponed, and schools along the route have been closed.
• The BJP leaders expect a significant turnout, estimating around one lakh people attending the rally, with attendees from various parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Party leaders have reviewed operational plans, directing departments to complete tasks and mobilize initiatives.
• However, the visit has not been without controversy. Omar Abdullah, leader of the National Conference, criticized the Jammu and Kashmir government, alleging that officials were pressured to attend the rally.
• He claimed that thousands of workers were forced to assemble before dawn and transported to the location under the threat of disciplinary action. Abdullah accused the government of orchestrating the gathering to create the appearance of support for the BJP.
• Interestingly, prior to PM Modi’s visit, a young singer from the Anantnag district, Imran Aziz, expressed his support through a three-minute song praising Modi’s actions, particularly the repeal of Article 370.
