Asaduddin Owaisi has held the Hyderabad constituency since 2004, Madhavi Latha succeeding his father Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, who won in 1984.
The area has long been a stronghold for the Majlis. In the 2019 elections, Owaisi faced a significant challenge with a 3 lakh vote difference against the BJP’s Bhagavanth Rao. Now, the BJP plans to disrupt the status quo in 2024 by fielding Dr. Madhavi Latha.

Madhavi Latha, known for her role as a spokesperson in the BJP’s campaign against triple talaq, is the chairman of Viranchi Hospital in Hyderabad and a cultural activist. She is a mother of three, a professional Bharatanatyam dancer, and made headlines for homeschooling her children, one of whom is at IIT. Madhavi Latha, affiliated with the NCC cadet program, holds a degree in political science.
Apart from being a religious speaker, Madhavi Latha is actively involved in charitable organizations like the LathaM Foundation and the Lopamudra Charitable Trust. She is the BJP’s first woman candidate in Hyderabad.
Madhavi Latha expressed surprise at her nomination from Owaisi’s constituency but claimed to have been working there for a year.
She highlighted issues like lack of cleanliness, education, and inadequate facilities for Muslim children in madrasas. She also mentioned alleged takeovers of Hindu temples and illegal habitations in Hyderabad’s Old City, emphasizing the persistence of poverty in the city center.

Madhavi Latha criticized Owaisi’s long tenure, suggesting it’s time for him to retire after representing the constituency for 40 years. She stated that the tears of 21 lakh voters moved New Delhi, leading to a declaration of war in Hyderabad. Madhavi Latha clarified that Owaisi is not the BJP’s B team, citing her nomination as evidence.
