Devoleena Bhattacharjee, known for her roles in Bigg Boss and Saath Nibhana Sathiya, reached out to the Indian government, specifically the Indian Embassy, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking assistance in repatriating her friend Amarnath Ghosh’s body from the United States. Amarnath had tragically lost his life in a shooting incident in St. Louis.
Expressing her distress on social media, Devoleena shared that Amarnath, a talented dancer from Kolkata pursuing a Ph.D. in the US, was shot multiple times during an evening walk, with no information about the assailant.

She highlighted that despite efforts from friends in the US, there were no updates on the retrieval of the body. Devoleena appealed to the Indian Embassy in the US, tagging External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing the need to understand the circumstances surrounding Amarnath’s death.
In subsequent messages to her fans, Devoleena Bhattacharjee lamented the lack of progress in the matter, pointing out that such issues seem to gain attention only when involving VVIPs or influential individuals.
She expressed concern that the body had not been released for the funeral, and there was no information about the identity of the assailant. Responding to a fan’s comment on the increasing trend of hate crimes in the US, Devoleena mentioned that efforts were underway among Amarnath’s friends in the US to collect funds for the funeral.
In another incident, Devoleena faced criticism on social media for her marriage based on love, with a user raising the issue of Love Jihad following her mention of watching The Kerala Story with her husband, Shanwaz Shaikh.

Sadhvi Prachi, a right-wing figure, had posted images from a showing of The Kerala Story in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, where a user associated Devoleena and her husband with Love Jihad. Devoleena Bhattacharjee defended her marriage, describing her husband as a “true Indian Muslim.”
