State leaders present included Pramod Sawant from Goa, Bhupendra Patel from Gujarat, Mohan Yadav from Madhya Pradesh, Pushkar Singh Dhami from Uttarakhand, Vishnu Deo Sai from Chhattisgarh, and Yogi Adityanath from Uttar Pradesh. The BJP aimed to release the candidate list earlier than usual, providing the nominees approximately 50 days for campaigning.
Speculation surrounded the first list, suggesting the inclusion of candidates from southern states. The anticipation grew, particularly regarding the potential candidacy of Union ministers presently holding Rajya Sabha seats. There were indications that Nirmala Sitharaman and Jaishankar were likely to run in the Lok Sabha elections, with uncertainty about their chosen constituencies.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s confidence in winning a third consecutive term drew parallels with the historical confidence demonstrated by India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Amid opposition claims of “24 me 400 par,” indications from sources suggested that the BJP could surpass 370 seats on its own.
The strategy of announcing candidates ahead of time, as observed in Madhya Pradesh during the previous election, was expected to be replicated, with a focus on southern states in the initial candidate list. This approach, providing candidates with ample time for campaigning, had proven successful for the BJP in the past.
