Kashmiri Journalist Yana Mir Faces Unwarranted Offense from Delhi Customs

Journalist and activist Yana Mir from Kashmir recently posted a video showing her being subjected to a bag search by customs officers at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. Delhi Customs responded by stating that such searches are a routine procedure for international travelers and emphasized that their actions were within the bounds of the law.

In a social media post, Delhi Customs explained that Yana Mir appeared unnecessarily offended during the bag scanning process, while other passengers complied effortlessly. They shared video footage supporting their claim and highlighted the polite behavior of their employees throughout the incident. According to the department, Yana Mir initially refused to have her bags scanned, and the airport staff eventually assisted in the process.

Yana Mir responded to the Customs’ posts by defending herself, stating that she promptly complied with the instructions to scan her bags. She criticized the government employees for their perceived arrogance and unwillingness to assist her with placing her luggage on the scanning machine.

Earlier, Yana Mir had shared a post detailing her experience at the airport, including questions about her belongings and accusations of being a “Brand Smuggler.” She highlighted the contrasting perception of her in London as an Indian media warrior and the customs officials in Delhi labeling her as a “Brand Smuggler.”

Interestingly, Yana Mir’s post comes shortly after she criticized Pakistan’s use of propaganda against India and expressed feeling safe in Kashmir. She had addressed the UK Parliament, urging the world media to avoid dividing the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Yana Mir emphasized that she is not comparable to Malala Yusufzai, as she feels secure in her native India and does not have to seek safety in another country.
