Showdown at the Ballot Box: BJP Faces Off Against AAP-Congress Alliance in Lok Sabha Elections

Mukul Wasnik, Congress’s general secretary, Lok Sabha disclosed that the party has decided to contest the Chandigarh seat after a lengthy deliberation. The formal announcement of the alliance between Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections took place on Saturday, revealing seat-sharing agreements for Delhi, Gujarat, and Haryana.

In Gujarat, with 26 Lok Sabha seats, the Congress will vie for 24, and the AAP for 2. In Haryana, where there are ten seats, the Congress will contest in 9, and the AAP in 1. For Delhi’s 7 seats, the AAP will lead with 4, and the Congress with 3.

Mukul Wasnik stated that on April 24, the Congress will contest in Bharuch and Bhavnagar in Gujarat. In Haryana, the Congress will compete on all seats except one in Kurukshetra, where the AAP will field a candidate.

In Delhi, the Congress will contest in Chandni Chowk and North East West, while the AAP will run in New Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, and East Delhi. Additionally, the Congress will run for both Lok Sabha seats in Goa.

However, there is no clarity on Punjab, where the AAP formed the government in 2022, as both parties have remained silent on their alliance status.

AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal had earlier announced the party’s intention to contest all 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab. Despite being political rivals in Punjab and Delhi, the AAP and Congress recently joined forces in the mayoral elections in Chandigarh, securing victory with the Supreme Court’s intervention.

Following the alliance announcement, AAP MP Sandeep Pathak emphasized the need for a sincere and robust alternative for the country. He highlighted issues such as injustice towards farmers, the dismantling of institutions by the BJP government, alleged election theft, imprisonment of opposition leaders, inflation, and unemployment. Pathak stressed that the alliance was formed with the nation’s well-being in mind, prioritizing collective interests over individual political gains.

The ongoing discussions about a potential agreement in Assam between the two parties have raised eyebrows, with the BJP labeling the alliance as opportunistic politics. Delhi BJP leader Ramvir Singh Biduri dismissed the partnership as opportunistic, citing a perceived lack of genuine trust between the Congress and AAP.
