A 3-time MLA left the Congress

Despite reports of dissatisfaction with the Congress management for not giving her due importance, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President Selvaperundagai claimed that Vijayadharani would not succumb to the BJP’s influence. However, contrary to these assertions, Vijayadharani surprised the Congress by officially joining the BJP in the presence of Union Minister of State L. Murugan after a BJP meeting in Delhi.

Reason behind the dissatisfaction

The discontent arose when Vijayadharani requested the Congress leadership to allow her to contest in the constituency after Vasantakumar contracted COVID-19. The party opted for Vasant Kumar’s son Vijay Vasanth instead, leading to Vijayadharani’s dissatisfaction. Although she was later given a ticket for the 2021 assembly elections, recent developments, including the appointment of new party leaders and decisions regarding the Kanyakumari seat for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, prompted her move to the BJP.

Differences between BJP and Congress

Expressing her reasons for the switch, Vijayadharani emphasized the importance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the global standing of India under it. This marks her first party shift in her political career, stating that the BJP needs to be strengthened further.

As political dynamics intensify in Tamil Nadu with ongoing Lok Sabha election preparations, Vijayadharani’s move adds a new dimension to the evolving political landscape in the region.
