Former Maharashtra chief minister, Manohar Joshi, passed away on February 23 at the age of 86 due to long-term age-related problems.
He suffered a cardiac arrest and was admitted to Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai, where he died early on Friday morning. Joshi had been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) since February 21, and his son, Unmesh, mentioned that he was being monitored after experiencing cardiac problems on Wednesday.

Manohar Joshi, affectionately known as Joshi Sir, was the first chief minister from within the Shiv Sena after its dissolution in 1995. He later served as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 2002 to 2005. Beginning his political journey in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), he became a prominent member of the Shiv Sena.
Joshi, a civil engineering graduate from Mumbai’s VJTI, joined the Shiv Sena in 1967 and served as a municipal councilor and mayor of Mumbai in the 1970s.
He held the position of Leader of the Opposition in the assembly from 1990 to 1991 and later became the chief minister of Maharashtra in 1995, succeeding Sharad Pawar. In 1999, after winning the general elections, he became the Union Minister of Public Enterprises and Heavy Industries.
Known for his organizational skills, Joshi played a significant role in the Shiv Sena during the 1980s. He also had a stint in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh before joining politics. In the Vajpayee government, he served as the Lok Sabha Speaker from 2002 to 2004.
Manohar Joshi His wife, Anagha Joshi, passed away in 2020 at the age of 75. He is survived by two daughters and a son. The final ceremonies will take place at the Shivaji Park Crematorium after transporting his mortal remains to his Matunga home.
