Renowned Radio Personality Ameen Sayani Passes Away at 91

The sad news was confirmed by his son Rajil Sayani. The funeral arrangements have been scheduled for Thursday, allowing time for relatives to arrive in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Son Ramil Sayani provided details of Ameen Sayani’s demise, mentioning that he suffered a heart attack on Tuesday night and was rushed to HN Reliance Hospital in Mumbai, where he eventually succumbed. Despite the best efforts of the hospital’s medical team, Ameen Sayani was pronounced dead.
The career of Ameen Sayani
Ameen Sayani was a stalwart in the radio industry for over 42 years, hosting Binaca Geetmala since 1952 on Radio Ceylon and later on Vividh Bharati (AIR). Throughout his career, he contributed to 19,000 commercials and jingles and produced over 53,000 radio shows. Ameen Sayani also played roles in various films, including Boxer, Teen Devian, Bhoot Bungla, and Qatl.
Social media is filled with tributes to the legendary broadcaster, with many acknowledging his significant role in the success of All India Radio. Fans expressed gratitude for the enduring impact of Binaca Geetmala on their memories and music appreciation.
The iconic phrase “Namaskarr bhaiyo aur behno, mai apka dostt Ameen Sayani bol rha hun” resonated through households, originating from the vintage radio sets. Ameen Sayani’s distinctive presentation style became an instant hit, especially when Bollywood songs were initially restricted on All India Radio.
