Today, the Ministry of Coal announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually launch a 300 MW solar power farm in Rajasthan. The project, being developed by NLC India Limited, a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Coal, is a significant investment of approximately Rs 1,756 crore. T

he solar power plant, located in Barsingsar, Bikaner district, will utilize modern technology, including Indian-made bifacial modules, in alignment with Prime Minister Modi’s Atma Nirbhar Bharat initiative.

The project aims to ensure affordable power access for government institutions, utilizing the existing power transmission lines of Barsingsar Thermal Power Station. The anticipated outcome is over 750 million units of green power annually,

offsetting around 18,000 million metric tons of carbon dioxide during its lifespan. The project has entered into a power usage agreement with Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam Limited, with a competitive cost per unit of Rs 2.52 for the next 25 years.

The launch of the project is expected in September 2024, and it is projected to indirectly generate employment for 100 individuals in operations and maintenance, along with 600 workers in manufacturing.

NLC India Limited, already operating Barsingsar Thermal Power Station, successfully secured the 300 MW solar project capacity through competitive bidding under the CPSE Scheme Phase-II Tranche-III of the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA).

The company, being the first CPSE in the country to achieve 1 GW of solar capacity, reinforces its commitment to renewable energy development.

Additionally, Rajasthan the viability gap finance will support the creation of 12 GW of grid-connected solar power projects under the Government Producer Scheme, a component of the Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) Scheme, benefiting various entities, including government and private enterprises.
