The Centre conferred the Bharat Ratna posthumously on former Prime Ministers Charan Singh and P.V. Narasimha Rao, along with acclaimed agriculture scientist MS Swaminathan, who played a pivotal role in India’s Green Revolution. N.V. Subhash, the grandson of P.V. Narasimha Rao, expressed joy over the recognition, stating that his grandfather’s contributions were overlooked for a significant period. Subhash appreciated PM Modi for acknowledging Narasimha Rao’s involvement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to highlight Narasimha Rao’s innovative leadership, emphasizing its crucial role in advancing India’s economy and laying a strong foundation for future prosperity.

Modi praised Rao as a statesman and scholar who served India in various capacities, including Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Union Minister, and a long-serving member of the Legislative Assembly and Parliament. In addition to economic contributions, PM Modi underscored Rao’s impact on education, language, and foreign policy, highlighting his diverse legacy as an administrator who guided India through significant changes while enriching its intellectual and cultural heritage.

About P.V. Narasimha Rao

P.V. Narasimha Rao, born on June 28, 1921, in Karimnagar, displayed multi-faceted talents, including an interest in theater, movies, and music. He pursued studies at the universities of Nagpur, Bombay, and Osmania in Hyderabad. With thirteen sons and five daughters, Narasimha Rao hailed from a widowed family.
