The Congress extended an invitation to Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday to join Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Uttar Pradesh, after Yadav initially declined the invitation. Accepting the invitation from Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Yadav announced his participation in the yatra in either Raebareli or Amethi.

Kharge invited Yadav to participate in the Nyay Yatra, commencing on February 16 in Uttar Pradesh, with the aim of strengthening the ‘PDA’ strategy of the SP, focusing on social justice and harmony. ‘PDA’ stands for ‘Pichchde (backward), Dalit, and Alpsankhyak’ (minority), a term coined by the SP.
Earlier, when asked about his participation, Yadav highlighted the issue of not receiving invitations for significant events. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh clarified that the itinerary for the Nyay Yatra in Uttar Pradesh was being finalized.
The Congress and SP are part of the opposition INDIA bloc, while the TMC and other parties have criticized the Congress for the yatra and seat-sharing arrangements. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee refrained from attending the yatra in her state.
Avinash Pande, UP in-charge and Congress general secretary, participated in the ‘Jyot se Jyot Jagate Chalo’ program organized by the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee. Pande emphasized that Rahul Gandhi is reminding the nation of humanity, love, and brotherhood, contrasting it with the BJP and RSS allegedly inciting hatred. The UP Congress announced a campaign where state workers will educate the public about Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra until February 12.
UP Congress chief Ajay Rai highlighted poet Pradeep’s dedication to humanity and fraternity, drawing parallels with Rahul Gandhi’s current efforts. Rai asserted that people are now aware that the Congress is the party standing up for their rights, predicting the ruling BJP’s downfall in 2024 due to public awareness of their alleged toxic tactics.
