With Maharashtra expected to cast votes in both the assembly and Lok Sabha elections, the seat-sharing plan becomes crucial in the state that comprises 288 assembly constituencies and 48 Lok Sabha seats. The ruling Mahayuti alliance, consisting of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), BJP, and Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, currently holds power.
Raj Thackeray has entrusted MNS leaders with further talks on seat-sharing, indicating the importance of collaboration ahead of the elections. However, the specifics of the arrangement are yet to be revealed. Thackeray expressed skepticism about the scheduled civic elections, citing the current political climate in the state.
There are speculations regarding a possible alliance between MNS and the BJP, with Sanjay Shirsat, a prominent Shiv Sena member, suggesting that such a collaboration could benefit the three-party alliance. On the contrary, MLA Rohit Pawar of the NCP, Sharad Pawar’s grand-nephew, dismissed Thackeray’s prediction of the NCP joining the state government.
Raj Thackeray, addressing party leaders and workers, discussed the 2024 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. However, he expressed doubt about the likelihood of civic elections taking place soon, considering the state’s political dynamics.
In another development, a leader of MNS presented Raj Thackeray with a brick reportedly brought back after the demolition of the Ayodhya Babri Masjid in 6 December 1992. The symbolic gesture adds historical significance to the party’s ideology, emphasizing Thackeray as the ideological heir of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray. The destruction of the Babri Masjid in 1992 by right-wing groups remains a pivotal event in Indian history.
