On Monday, a significant development unfolded as Manish Sisodia, a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former deputy chief minister of Delhi, was granted permission by the Rouse Avenue Court in New Delhi to visit his ailing wife once a week.
Sisodia, currently held in connection with a case related to the Delhi excise policy, attended the hearing and has filed an appeal for regular bail in the case. Seeking custody parole, he aims to visit his wife twice a week.

The court, presided over by special judge M. K Nagpal, allowed Sisodia to meet his wife once a week under the supervision of a physician, despite objections from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) counsel.
Represented by senior advocate Mohit Mathur, Sisodia emphasized the importance of these visits, citing family responsibilities, including his wife’s illness, a son living overseas, and an elderly mother. The court exercised caution, considering previous cases with similar rights granted and expressing skepticism about the necessity of visitation rights.
Ongoing legal dispute
The ongoing legal dispute involves a hearing scheduled for Sisodia’s regular bail plea on February 12, with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) set to present its case. Sisodia has faced multiple rejections for bail, including from the Supreme Court, and his recent request for review in December 2023 was also denied.
Delhi liquor fraud
Sisodia’s arrest by the CBI on February 26, 2023, and subsequent arrest by the ED on March 9, 2023, form the basis of his alleged involvement in the Delhi liquor fraud case. Despite brief respites, such as the custody parole granted in November 2023 for Diwali, Sisodia remains entangled in a prolonged legal battle with uncertain consequences.
In the application, it is mentioned that Sisodia’s wife was diagnosed with psychological issues after experiencing an acute episode of multiple sclerosis on April 25. The court noted that documentation already existed regarding his wife’s multiple sclerosis diagnosis over the previous 20 years.
