Greater Noida wants to establish ‘sister city’ relationship with US-based Loudoun County

Greater Noida is on the verge of establishing a sister city relationship with Loudoun County in the United States, potentially paving the way for significant investments and cultural and academic exchanges between the two regions. Often referred to as twinning of cities, a sister city agreement facilitates collaboration in various sectors such as business, education, biotechnology, culture, information technology, and pharmaceuticals.

US’ Loudoun County

A delegation from Loudoun County, Virginia, located approximately 70 km from Washington DC, recently visited Greater Noida to explore this partnership. Led by Buddy Rizer, the executive director of the Department of Economic Development of Loudoun County, the American delegation engaged in discussions with the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) to finalize the terms of the sister city agreement.

Agreement between Greater Noida and US’ Loudoun County

During the meeting, both parties proposed several ideas, and it is expected that a memorandum of understanding will be drafted and approved by the respective governments soon. The GNIDA has been actively pursuing an agreement with Loudoun County as a sister city, and the recent visit provided an opportunity to showcase the potential of Greater Noida, including the Noida International Airport, robust infrastructure, metro connectivity, expressways, green spaces, prominent businesses, educational institutions, and the emerging Industrial Integrated Township.

The Loudoun County delegation was briefed on various aspects of Greater Noida, such as upcoming projects like the multi-modal transport hub. Buddy Rizer expressed interest in substantial investments in areas such as data centers, education, and environmental initiatives.

GNIDA CEO NG Ravi Kumar is optimistic about the swift implementation of the sister city agreement, anticipating positive efforts from the Greater Noida Authority. This move aligns with the Indian government’s strategy of fostering cultural and diplomatic ties, as well as enhancing trade and investment relationships, through twin/sister agreements between Indian states and cities with partner countries.

This potential collaboration follows a series of similar agreements between Indian and international cities, including Varanasi and Kathmandu, Ayodhya and Janakpur, Agra and Chengdu, and Lucknow and Wenzhou.
