2 min readRajeshwariben Shah, the elder sister of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, passed away on Monday at a hospital in Mumbai, Maharashtra, at the age of 65. She had been undergoing medical treatment for some time, having previously undergone a lung transplant a few months ago. The Union Home Minister had canceled his scheduled events in Gujarat on Monday due to his sister’s demise.

Rajeshwariben had initially received medical care at KD Hospital in Ahmedabad before being transferred to Mumbai, where she ultimately passed away. Her death led to the cancellation of two events at Banas Dairy and Raksha University, where Amit Shah was supposed to introduce various projects and participate in a public event. Ajay Patel, the Chairman of Gujarat State Cooperative Bank Limited, confirmed the cancellation, citing the Home Minister’s inability to attend the functions because of his sister’s passing.
Amit Shah, who represents Gandhinagar in the Lok Sabha, had planned to inaugurate several developmental projects at Rashtriya Raksha University in Gandhinagar on the same day. However, all of his plans were canceled as he grieved his sister’s loss. The mortal remains of Rajeshwariben were brought to her home in the morning, and her final ceremonies are scheduled to take place at the Thaltej Crematorium in the afternoon.
Despite his busy schedule, Amit Shah had been in Ahmedabad since Sunday, celebrating Makar Sankranti with members of the Bharatiya Janta Party. He had also visited his sister at HN Reliance Foundation Hospital in south Mumbai last week, where industrialist Mukesh Ambani and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had also paid their respects.

Following the passing of his sister, Amit Shah canceled all public appearances and is expected to attend her funeral in the Ahmedabad suburb. The specific details of the funeral service are yet to be disclosed. Shah, deeply affected by the loss, had been in Ahmedabad for several days, participating in various events and festivities before the sad incident occurred.
