DRDO's new generation AKASH missile successfully test-fired and achieved a milestone

DRDO, the Defence Research and Development Organisation, achieved a significant milestone with the successful flight test of the new generation AKASH missile from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha. The test, conducted against unmanned high-speed aerial targets at low altitudes, saw the target intercepted and destroyed by the weapon system.

DRDO achieve milestone 

The Ministry of Defence affirmed the validation of the entire system, comprising the missile with a developed radio frequency seeker, launcher, multi-function radar, and control, command, and communication system. The Akash-NG system is an advanced missile capable of intercepting high-velocity and agile aerial threats, boasting an expected velocity of 80 km.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended DRDO, the Indian Air Force, and relevant public sector undertakings for this achievement, emphasizing that the successful development of the system would enhance air defense capabilities. DRDO Chairman Samir V Kamat also congratulated the teams involved in the successful flight test, highlighting the system’s performance as verified by various radars, telemetry, and electro-optical tracking systems.
