Delhi Police issues traffic alert ahead of Republic Day rehearsal parade

Residents of New Delhi are advised to take note of the traffic advisory issued by the Delhi Police in anticipation of today’s Republic Day parade rehearsal, scheduled for January 10. The advisory outlines specific routes in New Delhi that should be avoided due to anticipated traffic restrictions from 7 am to 11:30 am.

President Emmanuel Macron of France is set to be the chief guest at the 75th Republic Day Parade in Delhi on January 26, marking the sixth time a French leader has been invited to this annual event.

The Delhi Police has specifically identified areas to avoid, including Vijay Chowk, Rafi Marg-Kartavyapath crossing, Janpath-Kartavyapath crossing, and Man Singh Road-Kartavyapath crossing during the Republic Day parade rehearsal on January 10, 2024.

A senior officer from the Indian Air Force has confirmed the inclusion of notable female Agniveer Vayu fighters in this year’s Republic Day Parade contingent. Additionally, there will be two all-female contingents from the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force and Indian Naval force.

The theme for the 2024 Republic Day is “Viksit Bharat” (India as the Mother of Democracy), with notable guests expected, including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The parade will feature two all-female contingents, one comprising sixty women from the Indian Army and the other with one hundred forty-four from the Indian Air Force and Indian Naval force.

President Emmanuel Macron of France will preside over the Republic Day celebrations this year, succeeding President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt, who was the featured guest in 2023.

Reports indicate that the Kartyava Path has been used for marching band practices, with 80% of the band members hailing from the northeastern states. Police Superintendent Shweta K. Sugathan is among the 194 female head constables and force constables who will participate in the procession.

Recent traffic incidents include a jam on Ring Road from Moti Bagh to Safdarjung due to a broken-down hydraulic crane on the Rajnagar flyover. Another traffic alert mentions a bus derailment on Vikas Marg, disrupting the route between Nirman Vihar and ITO. Firni Road between Nangloi Stand and Delhi Gate Stand was blocked due to a bus breakdown near Govt. Hospital in Najafgarh.

According to Rashtrapati Bhavan, the change of guard ceremony will be suspended from January 13th to the 27th due to the Republic Day parade and preparations for the Beating Retreat event. Moreover, the Republic Day Parade contingent of the Indian Air Force will include female Agniveer Vayu personnel.
