Mitra expressed her initial attraction to Microsoft during the Covid pandemic, when she became part of the Student Ambassador community. Interacting with engineers and senior professionals fueled her passion for Microsoft products, ultimately solidifying her desire to work for the tech giant. Despite facing challenges in the application process, she eventually secured a position through an internship that led to a full-time role.
However, Mitra revealed to the publication that the support engineer role she took on at Microsoft wasn’t aligned with her long-term career aspirations. She explained that Microsoft’s policies would have delayed her consideration for more desirable roles within the company for several years. Fearing industry obsolescence after spending a few years solely as a support engineer, she made the difficult decision to resign.

Despite parting ways with Microsoft, Mitra remains loyal and expressed her willingness to return if the right opportunity arises in the future. Currently employed in Bengaluru, she emphasized her desire for a swift career progression, which she believed would be hindered by staying in the support engineer role for an extended period. While she acknowledged her departure from Microsoft, Mitra remains optimistic about a potential return, stating, “Not now, but someday, for sure.”
