Awhad, speaking in Shirdi, Maharashtra, claimed that Lord Ram, being from the Bahujan community, consumed meat during his 14-year stay in the forest.

BJP MLA Ram Kadam, leading the protests, announced their intention to file a case against Awhad for his remarks that allegedly offended Hindu sentiments. Kadam criticized the lack of strong response from those who claim to uphold Hindutva principles.
Awhad did not limit his controversial statements to Lord Ram. He further stirred the pot by asserting that India gained independence solely due to Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. Awhad suggested that the repeated attacks on Gandhi were because he belonged to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) and was a tradesman, which did not sit well with certain groups, including the RSS.
