The mocking incident was unfortunate, the Prime Minister said: Jagdeep Dhankhar.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his dissatisfaction with the actions of certain Members of Parliament (MPs) to Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar. This came a day after Trinmool Congress leader Kalyan Banerjee mockingly imitated Dhankar during the opposition’s demonstration on the Parliament steps.

The BJP-led government strongly condemned the MPs’ protests against their suspension. Vice President Dhankar received a call from the Prime Minister and shared that Modi was deeply hurt by the MPs’ theatrics, particularly because it occurred within the esteemed Parliament building.

Dhankar, in a statement, mentioned that Modi conveyed his disappointment, highlighting that such insults have been directed at him for two decades but deeming it unfortunate for a constitutional office like the Vice President to face such behavior in Parliament.

In response, Dhankar assured the Prime Minister that he would not be deterred from fulfilling his duties despite such incidents. He affirmed his commitment to upholding the values outlined in the constitution and declared, “I won’t change my path because of any insults.”

President Droupadi Murmu later expressed dismay over the treatment of Vice President Dhankar in a post on X. While acknowledging the importance of elected officials expressing themselves freely, the President emphasized the need for such expression to be within the bounds of decency and civility.

Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, was seen recording a video during Banerjee’s imitation of Dhankar.

Subsequently, Dhankar addressed the Rajya Sabha, expressing personal hurt over the attacks on his Jat and farmer backgrounds. He mentioned that the mimicry, recorded by Rahul Gandhi, had ravaged the Rajya Sabha chairman’s office and personally insulted him.

In response to the incident, Dhankar assured the Prime Minister that such insults would not deter him from carrying out his responsibilities.

He reiterated his commitment to upholding the principles enshrined in the Constitution, declaring, “The antics of a few won’t stop me from performing my duty, and I sincerely pledge my allegiance to those ideals. All the insults won’t cause me to veer from my course.
