More than 60 tourists stranded in Kashmir’s Gulmarg have been rescued by the military.
2 min readOn December 16, the Chinar Warriors, an elite regiment of the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps, conducted a successful rescue operation in Gulmarg, a northern Kashmiri town. Over 61 tourists, including women and children, were stranded due to heavy snowfall that covered the area, making transportation difficult.
The Indian Army, in a press statement, revealed that the tourists faced challenging conditions with freezing temperatures. The Chinar Warriors swiftly intervened, providing essential comforts such as sleeping bags, heating systems, and hot meals to the stranded individuals.

Gulmarg, a popular tourist destination, had recently transformed into a winter wonderland with fresh snowfall attracting visitors from around the world. However, the sudden blizzard had blocked several routes in the area, complicating matters for the stranded tourists.
Aside from the rescue mission, the Chinar Warriors demonstrated their commitment to public service. In Taratpora and Ramhall, they established a medical camp, offering assistance to both tourists and local residents. The group also played a crucial role in extinguishing a fire in the Bazipore district of Manasbal, Kashmir, on the previous day, saving lives and property.

The Chinar Warriors, tasked with military operations in the Kashmir Valley, have a storied history of involvement in conflicts with Pakistan and China. Known for their dedication, they not only safeguard the borders but also actively engage in humanitarian efforts, extending aid during emergencies and natural disasters.
In a similar vein, in Eastern Sikkim, the Trishakti Corps Army soldiers initiated a rescue effort for over 800 tourists stranded due to heavy snowfall. The Army ensured that the rescued individuals received adequate provisions, including food, shelter, and warm clothing. This commitment to assisting civilians in times of need showcases the multifaceted role of the Indian Army, extending beyond national defense to encompass humanitarian efforts.
