On December 14, President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, delivered a presentation at the National Painting Competition on Energy Conservation and awarded prizes for the 2023 National Energy Conservation Awards. This ceremony took place in New Delhi, marking National Energy Conservation Day. Addressing the gathered audience, she emphasized that our well-being and environmental preservation are intrinsically linked. Smt. Murmu stressed the importance of optimizing natural resources to meet our needs sustainably, alleviating pressure on Mother Earth and the environment.

National Energy Conservation Awards 2023

December 14 signifies National Energy Conservation Day, celebrated by organizing the National Energy Conservation Awards 2023. This event serves as a platform to convey the message of preserving nature, highlighting the significance of energy conservation, and showcasing achievements in energy efficiency and production.

President Murmu asserted, “Energy saving is energy production.”

During the 2023 National Energy Conservation Awards ceremony, President Murmu advocated for the optimal use of nature without burdening it. She also encouraged innovation and energy efficiency, emphasizing that saving energy contributes to the generation of new energy. The message resonated with the audience, and she urged them to propagate this essential message widely.

Embracing a triple bottom line approach, she stressed that sustainability efforts should yield not only financial benefits but also environmental and social advantages.

President Murmu’s Perspective on LiFE

Addressing efforts such as the ‘Green Energy Open Access Rules, 2022,’ and Renewable Purchase Obligations, President Murmu highlighted their crucial role in India’s pursuit of Nationally Determined Contributions by 2030. Referring to “LiFE” (Lifestyle for Environment), she announced India’s initiative of a “Green Credit” to promote environmentally friendly practices rooted in tradition. She expressed confidence that these endeavors would play a vital role in achieving India’s clean energy and environmental objectives.

Conclusion

President Murmu affirmed India’s consistent commitment to clean energy. While acknowledging the decreasing dependence on fossil fuels, she underscored their continued importance. India’s promotion of clean coal technology aims to enhance efficiency and environmental friendliness in coal-related processes. As evidence of these efforts, India has ascended from the 30th to the 7th position in the Climate Change Performance Index over the past decade, reflecting the nation’s dedication to environmental responsibility.
