On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a significant announcement, reducing the prices of domestic gas cylinders by Rs 100.

During his visit to Srinagar, the Prime Minister also inaugurated various projects, emphasizing that this decision would alleviate the financial burdens of millions of households, with a particular focus on benefiting women across the nation.

He expressed that the reduction in the price of LPG cylinders would be a substantial relief for Nari Shakti, acknowledging the importance of empowering women.

International Women’s Day, observed annually on March 8th, sheds light on various issues such as gender equality, women’s reproductive rights, violence against women, and the achievements of women in different fields.

In alignment with this, several state governments in India have implemented targeted programs addressing women’s challenges in areas like education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and social welfare, aiming to uplift and empower women.

Some noteworthy state government programs for women include:

  1. Delhi – Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana: This program provides financial assistance of Rs 1000 per month to women above 18 residing in Delhi with a voter ID card.
  2. Uttar Pradesh – Mission Shakti: Implemented in stages, this program involves the formation of Women’s Day self-help groups, linking individuals to destitute women pension schemes, and establishing Mission Shakti classrooms across Gram Panchayat Bhawans.
  3. Maharashtra – Mukhya Mantri Kanya Sumagla Yojana: A cash transfer program aimed at providing social security to the girl child.
  4. Uttar Pradesh – Nirbhaya-Ek Pahal Program: Connecting women with state banks to access loans at lower interest rates and government subsidies.
  5. Maharashtra – Manjhi Kanya Bhagyashree Scheme: Providing financial aid to two girl children for a maximum of eighteen years.
  6. Bihar – Kanya Utthan Yojana: Offering financial support to women pursuing higher education, with grants up to Rs 50,000 until graduation.

Additionally, Women’s Day Tamil Nadu’s Amma Two-Wheeler Scheme offers a 50% subsidy up to Rs 25,000 for working women looking to purchase two-wheelers.

These initiatives collectively contribute to the broader goal of advancing women’s rights and promoting gender equality in various aspects of life.
