The Chief of Maintenance Command underscores the IAF’s intelligence and industry collaboration, showcasing its capability to internally create systems and integrate various missiles for robust air defense. SAMAR-2, tested successfully during the Astrashakti 2023 exercise at SuryaLanka Air Force Station, incorporates R-27 missiles and is developed by the 7-base Repairing Depot Tughlakabad (BRD).

SAMAR-2 boasts the capability to engage aerial threats with missiles traveling at speeds of two to 2.5 Mach. The domestically developed platform features a twin-turret system, enabling the launch of two missiles simultaneously in single and salvo modes.

Air Marshal AP Singh and Air Marshal VR Chaudhari have personally witnessed the system’s performance, with Air Marshal Vibhas Pande engaging with personnel involved in its development during a visit to Siryalanka air base.

The IAF, in line with the Prime Minister’s directive to promote self-reliance, has successfully fired missiles from other weapons systems, showcasing their proficiency.

The Maintenance and Repair Command has made significant strides in nationalizing equipment and spare parts for ground-based weapon systems, transport aircraft, fighter jets, and helicopters.
