Prime Minister Proclaims Today as a "Historic Day for Railway s" with Launch of 2000 Projects

On Monday, February 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate approximately 2,000 railway infrastructure projects worth Rs. 41,000 crore through a video conference. In a social media post, PM Modi highlighted the significance of the day, emphasizing the dedication of these projects at 12:30 PM.

As part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation for the redevelopment of 553 railway stations. The initiative aims to enhance travel experiences by creating station city centers and rooftop plazas.

Additionally, the inauguration will include the opening of underpasses and overbridges across India, contributing to the “Ease of Living” for the citizens.

  • Under the Amrit Bharat initiative, more than Rs 19,000 crore will be invested in the redevelopment of stations spread across 27 states and Union Territories.
  • These stations will serve as city centers, featuring modern amenities such as roof plazas, landscaping, multimodal connectivity, sleek facades, children’s play areas, kiosks, and food courts.
  • The redevelopment will prioritize environmental and Divyang-friendly aspects, drawing inspiration from local heritage, culture, and architecture.
  • Apart from inaugurating railway stations, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation for nearly 1500 road overpasses and underpasses in various states.
  • The estimated cost of these projects is around Rs 21,520 crore. The initiatives aim to alleviate traffic congestion, enhance connectivity and safety, and improve the overall capacity and efficiency of rail travel.
  • Furthermore, on February 26, PM Modi will kickstart the upgrading process of Gurugram railway station.
  • The initial phase of the project is estimated to cost Rs 295 crore. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the redevelopment of Gomti Nagar station in Uttar Pradesh, a project valued at about Rs 385 crore.
  • This station, designed to accommodate increased passenger traffic in the future, features separate arrival and departure areas, a central concourse,
  • free-flowing traffic, a food court, and ample parking in the upper and lower basements, according to the PMO.
