Former Rajasthan Cabinet Minister Mahendrajit Singh Malviya, a Congress MLA, is reportedly considering joining the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), dealing a significant setback to the Congress in the state ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, according to reliable sources.

It is believed that Malviya is dissatisfied with the Congress party.Malviya, who currently represents the Bagidora Assembly seat in Banswara district, has a political history dating back to 2008

when he first became an MLA by defeating a Janata Dal (United) candidate. Despite facing anti-incumbency in 2013, he managed to retain his seat, and in 2018, he secured victory again by defeating the BJP’s candidate.

As a tribal leader from southern Rajasthan, Malviya’s potential shift to the BJP is seen as significant, especially considering the BJP’s strong influence in that region. The Bagidora Assembly seat falls within the Mewar region, covering districts such as Bhilwara, Banswara, Chittorgarh, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand, and Udaipur.

Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya represents 

Malviya’s name came into prominence in 2020 during the political crisis in Rajasthan when an FIR was filed in connection with an alleged attempt to topple the Ashok Gehlot government.The case involved leaked audio clips in which individuals claimed Malviya’s association with Sachin Pilot’s group. However, it appears that his allegiances have shifted since then.

Malviya was disappointed with Congres. 

Notably, Malviya’s absence during the filing of nomination papers for Sonia Gandhi, a Congress candidate from Rajasthan for the Rajya Sabha elections on February 14, has raised suspicions about his discontent within the party.
