The outcome of today’s trust vote in the state assembly is crucial for the fate of the BJP cooperation in Bihar and the Janata Dal, led by Nitish Kumar. To secure victory in the assembly, an amalgamation requires the support of 122 MLAs, and reportedly, 127 MLAs have pledged their support to Nitish Kumar.

With 128 members in the 243-member assembly, the NDA alliance is expected to easily pass the crucial floor test. Ahead of the floor test, a significant meeting was convened at the residence of JD(U) leader and Bihar Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary on Sunday. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, expressing confidence in winning the trust vote, urged all members of his party’s legislature to attend the floor test and refrain from engaging in any behavior that could disrupt the assembly’s proceedings.

The JD(U) has 45 MLAs, and with the additional support of 78 MLAs from the JD, which is an ally in the NDA, and four MLAs from former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha, the NDA alliance appears well-positioned. Independent MLA and minister Sumit Kumar Singh, present at the JD(U) legal party meeting, further strengthens their numbers.

While a few JD(U) MLAs were absent from the meeting at Vijay Kumar Chaudhary’s residence on Sunday, the Bihar Minister assured that they would be present for today’s trust vote, attributing their absence to unforeseen circumstances previously communicated. Notably, preparations for the trust vote began on February 10, with the NDA alliance gathering for lunch at Minister Shrawan Kumar’s house.

A couple of BJP MLAs, who reportedly missed a scheduled workshop in Bodh Gaya, were brought back to Patna on Sunday. Meanwhile, RJD MLAs and Leftist allies have camped at the residence of former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, demonstrating unity within the Mahagathbandhan. Videos depicting Mahagathbandhan members enjoying music, a bonfire, and a game of cricket at Tejashwi Yadav’s house have surfaced.

Following a complaint by RJD MLA Chetan Anand, who alleged abduction and house arrest at Tejashwi Yadav’s residence, Patna Police made a brief visit late on Sunday night. Anand’s younger brother filed the complaint, and the RJD, in response, claimed that Nitish Kumar sent the police to Tejashwi Yadav’s home in an attempt to influence the trust vote.
