Kejriwal Emphasizes: Education as the Key to Eradicating Poverty

On Friday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal declared his government’s commitment to delivering high-quality education and announced plans to open more schools in the capital. Kejriwal, who has been facing summonses from investigative agencies, accused the BJP-led Centre of deploying all its investigative resources against him, likening the treatment to that of a dangerous terrorist.

Following the groundbreaking ceremony for a government-owned school building in Mayur Vihar Phase III, Kejriwal stated that the BJP-led government was targeting him with investigative agencies. He is scheduled to appear in a city court on February 17 in connection with a complaint brought by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) related to a money-laundering case.

Despite multiple summonses, Kejriwal emphasized his government’s focus on providing high-quality education to every child, asserting that it is key to eliminating poverty in a generation. He highlighted ongoing efforts to establish new schools in Delhi, acknowledging the need for substantial improvements in the state of education and government schools in the capital.

Since the formation of the AAP government, Kejriwal pointed out the opening of impressive schools in Burari, Rohini, and Palam, with 1.5 lakh children benefiting from these educational initiatives. He pledged that every citizen in Delhi would receive free, high-quality education, and new school constructions would replace outdated ones, featuring modern facilities like activity rooms, labs, libraries, and elevators.

Kejriwal expressed a commitment to realizing Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s vision of providing universal access to education. He criticized the Centre for obstructing the AAP government’s proposals, such as the ration delivery plan, which had been rejected two years earlier. However, he announced the commencement of doorstep ration delivery in Punjab, with plans to implement it in Delhi as well.

Addressing challenges posed by the Centre, Kejriwal insisted that Delhi should be granted full-state status to overcome obstacles in delivering services. He expressed disappointment in being labeled a “thief” by the BJP, despite providing Delhi residents with free access to healthcare, education, and electricity, in contrast to the costlier and lower-quality services in states governed by the ruling party. Kejriwal questioned the accountability of those providing free services compared to those charging high prices without delivering comparable benefits.
