Zee5’s latest anthology film, “Lantrani,” brings together the creative prowess of three national award-winning filmmakers: Bhaskar Hazarika, Kaushik Ganguly, and Gurvinder Singh. The anthology comprises three distinct films – “Dharna Mana Hai,” “Hud Hud Dabang,” and “Sanitized Samachar,” all housed under the “Lantrani” banner. Set to stream on February 9 as “Lantrani Volume 1,” these stories unfold the absurd realities of rural India, exploring unique survival strategies inspired by various facets of small-town life.

The film features an ensemble cast including Johny Lever, Jitendra Kumar, Jisshu Sengupta, Nimisha Sajayan, a prominent figure in Malayalam cinema, and Sanjay Mahanand from Bhojpuri cinema. Each of the three movies is directed by acclaimed filmmakers Bhaskar Hazarika, Kaushik Ganguly, and Gurvinder Singh.
Gurvinder Singh, director of “Dharna Mana Hai,” shares, “I always aim to portray authenticity in my films.” The story revolves around a scheduled caste woman elected as the first Sarpanch member who realizes her lack of actual power. In a bid to challenge the system, she and her spouse embark on a protest outside the DDO’s office, leading to unexpected turns.
Kaushik Ganguly, director of “Hud Hud Dabang,” presents a tale of a police officer desk-bound for 25 years. Given a gun and a bullet bike to transport a criminal, he decides to let the prisoner go after discovering his past. The intriguing question of his unconventional actions awaits viewers in “Lantrani Volume 1.”
Bhaskar Hazarika, director of “Sanitized Samachar,” expresses, “People constantly tell me that ‘Sanitized Samachar’ is a very intriguing title,” underscoring the curiosity surrounding his story.
Johny Lever takes on a different role in “Hud Hud Dabang” and states, “I’m good at making people laugh, but in this film, I tried my hand at a very different role.” Collaborating with director Kaushik Ganguly, Lever navigates a challenging character, expressing excitement about the audience’s response.
