Tamil Nadu actor Thalapathy Vijay made a significant announcement on Friday, declaring the formation of his political party named Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. The decision came after a meeting in Chennai last week, where members of his fan club, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, gave their approval. Vijay aims to bring about a substantial shift in politics, focusing on a corruption-free, transparent, and caste-neutral administration.

In a released statement, the actor stated, “We are registering our party, Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam, with the EC today.” The primary goal is to contest and win the 2026 assembly elections, intending to implement much-needed fundamental political changes. Vijay emphasized his dedication to politics, stating it’s more than a mere side gig and that he has invested significant time preparing for it.
The statement outlined the actor’s perspective on the current political scenario, addressing the issues of corruption and administrative mismanagement. Vijay expressed a vision for an administration that is efficient, transparent, caste-free, visionary, and devoid of corruption. The party plans to conduct public gatherings and events once Election Commission approval is obtained, where they will introduce their flag, party symbol, policies, tenets, and action plans.
Despite the political plunge, the statement clarified that the party would not participate in the 2024 general elections or endorse any candidate in the upcoming polls. Thalapathy Vijay, after approval from the general council of his fan club, formally registered his political party several months ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha Elections.
The actor, with a substantial fan base in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, has been actively involved in charitable endeavors. His political inclination was evident in 2018 when he visited the families of those affected by the Thoothukudi Police shooting, showcasing his commitment to making a meaningful political debut.
