Bhumi Pednekar takes on the role of investigative journalist Vaishali Singh in the upcoming Netflix film Bakshak set to premiere on February 9. The teaser for the movie, which translates to “predator,” was unveiled recently. Directed by Pulkit, the film revolves around Vaishali’s mission to expose the perpetrators of a sexual assault case at a shelter home.

The trailer sheds light on the dark side of a girls’ shelter home run by Aditya Srivastava, also known as Bansi Sahu. Bhumi’s character defies advice and courageously takes up the case to uncover the truth, based on real-life events. Shah Rukh Khan, whose Red Chillies Entertainment is supporting the film, shared the trailer on Instagram, emphasizing it as “a story of resilience that needs to be told.”

Apart from Bhumi Pednekar, the movie features Surya Sharma, Sai Tamhankar, and Sanjay Mishra. Gauri Khan, wife of Shah Rukh Khan, co-owns Red Chillies Entertainment along with Gaurav Verma.

Bhumi, in an interview with news agency ANI, acknowledged the challenges of portraying a journalist and expressed admiration for the bravery of real-life journalists. She highlighted the difficulty of asking tough questions, especially to those in authority, and commended journalists for their brave and honorable work. Bhumi hopes that “Bhakshak” sparks a dialogue leading to significant societal change, as the film addresses heinous crimes against children.

In her role as Vaishali Singh, Bhumi plays an unwavering woman seeking justice, delving into the investigative aspects of crimes against women. Despite the teaser offering minimal details, Bhumi’s portrayal showcases a departure from her usual glamorous roles, marking a significant shift in her filmography.

The makers aim to bring attention to the harsh realities of society, encouraging a dialogue that drives meaningful reform. Bhumi expressed excitement for the film to contribute to a crucial conversation, shedding light on the need for change and justice in the face of such sensitive and challenging subjects.
