Nitish Kumar's Political Maneuver Sparks Initial Resistance to RJD in Bihar Assembly"

Political Dynamics Shift in Bihar Assembly as Nitish Kumar’s Alliance Change Sparks Leadership Controversy” In a significant political development, Bihar Assembly Speaker Awadh Bihari Choudhary, a representative of the RJD, faces potential ousting through a proposed no-confidence motion by BJP leaders. This move follows Nitish Kumar’s decision to join the NDA alliance as Chief Minister, marking a decisive shift in alliances.

Leaders spearheading the initiative to dismiss Choudhary include Nand Kishore Yadav, Tarkishore Prasad, Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Vinay Kumar Choudhary from the JD(U), along with Ratnesh Sada and other NDA coalition members in the Legislative Assembly.

Nitish Kumar’s recent departure from the Mahagathbandhan government, a grand alliance comprising the RJD and Congress, comes after his oath as Chief Minister for the record ninth time within the NDA coalition.

Having previously severed ties with the BJP in 2022 over internal party issues, Kumar had joined the Mahagathbandhan. The NDA, with 128 assembly members, now holds a six-seat majority, while the Mahagathbandhan has 114 lawmakers from the RJD, Congress, and Left parties.

In the 243-seat legislature, the RJD leads with 79 MPs, followed by the BJP with 78, JD(U) with 45, and Congress with 19. The Left Party has 16 representatives, with HAM and AIMIM having 4 and 1, respectively.

Speculation surrounding the INDIA group’s failure to collaborate, particularly with the Congress, has fueled the no-confidence motion against Choudhary. Allegations include delayed seat-sharing talks and a lack of consensus on presenting Nitish Kumar as the opposition coalition’s front-runner.

Nitish Kumar, a key anti-BJP alliance member for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, had played a pivotal role in uniting factions. However, his influence waned as the Congress took center stage within the coalition.

Kumar’s decision to remove Lalan Singh as JD(U) president last year heightened rumors of a split within the party, leading to the current realignment with the BJP.

The BJP, benefiting from the alliance change, is well-positioned for the upcoming elections, especially with the momentum around the Bharat Ratna awarded to Karpoori Thakur.

Speculation also surrounds the possibility of Karpoori Thakur, a respected figure in Bihar politics, switching parties following the Bharat Ratna recognition. Thakur’s legacy, known as “Jan Nayak” or the “leader of the people,” adds complexity to the evolving political landscape.

Despite facing challenges, Nitish Kumar is expected to retain his position as Chief Minister for a historic ninth term, solidifying his role as Bihar’s prominent political leader.
