"Aerial Brilliance: Deepika and Hrithik Shine in Fighter's Sky-High Action"

In 1986, a blockbuster film emerged, offering a pilot a shot at redemption, Fighter’s and its global popularity was unparalleled. Tom Cruise’s “Top Gun” not only set the standard for aerial action movies but also became a timeless classic.

The franchise saw a reimagined version in 2022, marking Cruise’s return, but subsequent attempts to replicate the formula fell short. Enter “Fighter,” directed by Siddharth Anand, a film that draws inspiration from “Top Gun” while weaving a fast-paced narrative of bravery, patriotism, and the avian heroes defending our nation. Adding to the allure is the charismatic duo of Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone leading the cast.

If Rajkumar Hirani reigns supreme in feel-good movies and Karan Johar dominates family dramas, Siddarth Anand has carved a niche for himself with his extravagant masala entertainers. With “Fighter,” Anand shifts his focus to a patriotic tone, adhering to a formula often associated with movies tackling Kashmir and the Indo-Pakistan dispute. Injecting glitzy adrenaline-fueled action sequences and patriotic music like “Vande Mataram” and “Jai Hind,” Anand introduces his characters in a way that sets the stage for the film’s high-flying drama.

Unlike his previous works, Anand breaks the mold in “Fighter” by opening with a captivating scene featuring Deepika Padukone’s character, Minni, before introducing the main protagonist, Hrithik Roshan’s Patty. The director takes his time developing the characters and the Air Force pilots, led by Anil Kapoor’s Rocky, Rakesh Jaisingh, featuring the ensemble of Minni, Patty, Karan Singh Grover’s Taj, and Akshay Oberoi’s Bash.

The Pulwama attack and its aftermath become the focal point of “Fighter,” showcasing Anand’s newfound ability to craft a compelling potboiler infused with patriotic sentiments. The film’s true hero lies in its action sequences, with Anand avoiding direct comparisons to “Top Gun” by employing a unique color scheme for key shots. While the first half strikes a balance between action and emotion, the second half falters briefly before building up to a climactic finale. The pairing of Hrithik and Deepika proves to be a brilliant and successful move, adding an extra layer of appeal to the film.

However, “Fighter” finds itself entangled in its own pursuit of balancing commercial viability with the preservation of sentimental appeal, a contrast to the free-spirited nature of “Pathaan.” Some scenes, particularly those where Patty engages in word games or expounds on love for the country, start to feel repetitive and lose their impact over time. Despite these minor setbacks, “Fighter” remains a captivating cinematic experience, showcasing Anand’s prowess in delivering an extravagant yet emotionally resonant blockbuster.
