Twelve students and two teachers lost their lives when a boat capsized in Harni Motnath Lake in Vadodara ship on Thursday. At present, two teams from Vadodara Fire and Emergency Services are on standby at the scene. Sub-fire officer Jaideep Gadhvi informed the media that 14 out of the 20 individuals rescued earlier, including the teachers, did not survive. Vadodara Fire Service units, equipped with underwater cameras, continue to standby to assist in the ongoing search.

The incident involved a boat overturning in Harni Motnath Lake, resulting in the tragic loss of fourteen lives, including students and teachers. Jaideep Gadhvi mentioned that the rescue efforts are being carried out with the assistance of two Vadodara ship Fire Service teams on standby. After the search concludes, missing reports will be filed at 10 am.
Post-mortem procedures are currently underway, as confirmed by DCP Vadodara Leela Patil, who stated that a case has been filed in connection with the boat capsize incident. Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the injured at SSG Hospital in Vadodara. An inquiry into the case has been initiated to ensure justice.
The names of the deceased victims, including both teachers and students, have been released. Sufiya Shaukat Shaikh, 13, is among the survivors receiving medical attention. Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi announced that a case has been filed under sections 304, 308, and 114 of the Indian Penal Code, and two suspects have been apprehended. The Vadodara District Collector has been entrusted with a magistrate’s investigation.

Home Minister Amit Shah expressed condolences and wished for the quick recovery of the injured children. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for each deceased person and Rs 50,000 for the injured. Additionally, the Gujarat government pledged Rs 50,000 for the injured and Rs 4 lakhs for the deceased’s next of kin.
