Prime Minister opens Khelo India Youth Games 2024

Today, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Khelo India Youth Games. Chief Minister MK Stalin and other dignitaries are expected to attend.

Over the next two days (January 20 and 21), Prime Minister Modi will embark on visits to various prominent temples in the Tamil Nadu region.

Amidst his temple visits, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to participate in the “Pran Pratishtha” ceremony at the Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22, alongside a large gathering.

Khelo India Games:

The Khelo India Games will take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, from January 19th to the 31st. The event will feature more than 5,500 participants competing in 26 different sports. The cities of Chandigarh, Madurai, Trichy, and Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu have been chosen as hosts for the Games.

The opening ceremony, presided over by Prime Minister Modi and attended by Chief Minister MK Stalin and Governor RN Ravi, will showcase a diverse range of sports. Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Nisith Pramanik, Anurag Thakur, and Tamil Nadu’s Minister of Youth Welfare and Sports Development, Udayanidhi Stalin, will also be present.

Various sports, including football, kabaddi, volleyball, Judo, weightlifting, squash, archery, boxing, badminton, table tennis, cycling, gymnastics, swimming, tennis, shooting, fencing, and others, will be featured across Madurai, Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli, and Chennai.

In a noteworthy inclusion, the Khelo India Youth Games will introduce the traditional Tamil Nadu sport of Silambam as a demonstration sport. The event is a testament to the Prime Minister’s commitment to supporting underprivileged athletes and strengthening grassroots sports.

Protect Modi’s Trip to Chennai with Five Measures

To ensure the safety of Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Chennai, stringent security measures have been implemented. A drone “no-fly zone” has been established, and more than 22,000 troops have been deployed.

Chennai airport has implemented additional security precautions, including restricting access to the runway for contract workers and requiring identification from permanent personnel approaching airport grounds.

Prime Minister Modi will commence the Khelo India Youth Games 2023 by traveling in an open vehicle from Chennai Airport to INS Adyar, near Napier Bridge, and then to Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Traffic rerouting and close monitoring of the route are planned, with security checks at various locations, including hotels and guesthouses.

Inspector General Lava Kumar, heading the Prime Minister’s Special Protection Group (SPG), has reviewed security protocols at the airport, Raj Bhavan (PM Modi’s residence), and the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to ensure a secure and smooth visit.
