In Jorhat, Assam, the organizers of the “Bharat Jodo Naya Yatra” are facing legal action as a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against them for reportedly deviating from the approved route. Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress party, led the yatra, which encountered issues upon its arrival in Jorhat. According to news reports, the local police have registered a formal complaint against the yatra and its principal organizer, KB Byju, for allegedly straying from the designated route within Jorhat town.

According to officials and media sources, the yatra took an unauthorized route through the town, causing chaos in the vicinity. A senior police official mentioned that the sudden surge of people led to a situation resembling a stampede, resulting in some individuals falling. The Jorhat Sadar Police Station has initiated a Suo-mot FIR against the yatra and its chief organizer for the alleged route deviation.
Despite the police action, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia expressed dissatisfaction, claiming that the FIR was a tactic to hinder the yatra’s progress. He argued that the police failed to manage traffic diversions at the designated points, and the approved route was inadequate for the large crowd accompanying the yatra.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, a prominent political figure, accused the police of trying to sabotage the yatra out of fear of its success on the first day in Assam. The Bharat Jodo Naya Yatra, spearheaded by Rahul Gandhi, commenced on January 14 in Manipur and is set to conclude in Mumbai on March 20. The yatra aims to cover 6,715 km over 67 days, traversing 110 districts across 15 states.
Rahul Gandhi’s second yatra within a year is strategically timed to build political momentum ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Gandhi asserts that the yatra’s objective is to establish a just and peaceful society, countering the BJP’s focus on monopoly, violence, and obstruction.

The meticulously planned Bharat Jodo Naya Yatra, covering 6,713 kilometers from Manipur to Maharashtra predominantly by bus, strategically targets crucial areas in the lead-up to the elections. Passing through 100 Lok Sabha seats and 15 states, the journey is slated to conclude on March 20–21 in Mumbai.
